System Type? / Startup

Hi,
This is kinda weird for me, my system type is shown as "64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor", but when I run Task Manager and under Processes all the programs are shown as (32 bit) even the 64bit ones I've installed myself. Does Windows 8 change it from 64bit to 32bit automatically during installation? And also, when I start my computer it goes to the start screen, but then immediately changes to the desktop screen. How do I get it to stay on the start screen?

Most applications are 32 bit, only very few will be 64 bit. What 64 bit apps are you talking about that you installed yourself?

If you were running a 32 bit OS, it wouldn't say 32 bit.. since by definition, they would all be 32 bit. It only shows 32 bit when on a 64 bit OS.

As for the start screen, you are running an application at startup that is causing the desktop to be shown.

Just programs I installed that have both 32 & 64bit versions, I always choose the 64bit version, but in Windows 8 it shows as 32bit version just seems weird to me and you're right I did have an application that causes the desktop screen to show up.

some applications like crysis have a 64bit version that you need to launch specificly over the 32bit version, 32bit is default even on 64 bit systems, unless the app doesn't have a 32bit client.

others like adobe master suite are 64bit only now(think they do have a 32bit version but it's not part of the package) so shouldn't say anything after the running task.

other instances i know of are world of warcraft, you have to change it in the launcher to 32bit/64bit.

internet explorer has 2 versions as well, 32bit default, and 64bit is captioned.(err that's in windows 7 not on windows 8 to check just now)

essentially what i'm saying is check to make sure you are launching the 64bit version of the application.

What I meant is not that both 32bit and 64bit versions comes in one application, but an application that has two separate versions, one for 32bit only and one for 64bit only. I choose to download and install the 64bit only version and still it shows as 32bit that's what is confusing me.

It would help if you TOLD US which apps. We can't help if you don't supply information.

ah right i get you now, just gonna run some apps and see if i can find an example to take a screenshot.

if i'm not mistaken what is happening is software devs are taking what is a native 32bit app and applying some 64bit processes for performance improvments or integration for your system but isn't actually a 64bit app just a modified 32bit app recompiled for 64bit.

i'll refer to world of warcraft on this one as this is exactly what they do, it's entirely written in 32bit and they recently added a 64bit client, this gave the client access to higher ram values and increased thread length but it still remains a 32bit application.
so all the graphics game code and everything about the game is still 32bit but the client interface with the pc can access more and has better performance for it's efforts.

i'm sure there is someone smarter on here that can describe this better xd.
