Solved Stuck at recovery environment.

I've had a long day refitting a kitchen in preparation for a new dishwasher for a family friend - so I have not been near my PC.

I'm glad you have made some progress.

I know what you mean about (K)Ubuntu - you must give a password to do any admin task, and you cannot get around it easily. I prefer Linux Mint, and SuperOS, which feels much less like Linux to me. I preferred it to Vista in 2008, and then went back to XP.

When you get a chance do burn DVDs for recovering Windows 7 and 8.

I have about as much luck with USBs as with Floppy disks - they let me down when needed most. Both the Windows 7 and Windows 8 recovery environment have wiped the ability to boot from my rescue USBs when they attempt to repair things.

I think I'll have usb with win8 tomorrow afternoon.
and if this fails, i'll ask some of the colleagues to burn win8 to dvd and will reformat the hdd.
After all, i have all documents backed up. It's just one application i wrote that i don't want to lose...

I copied windows iso and microsoft's tool from windows download tutorial to usb and gave it to a friend to make me bootable usb from that, then i could use auto repair. When i restarted computer, it still wasn't booting windows but it's another repair function that was opening before. But this time, it solved the problem after attempting repairs. It ran very slowly then, but a simple restart fixed that. And that's it.

Yes, friends are always the best assets to have! Glad it worked out OK. It's all a learning experience - and we all have much to learn.
