Apologies if this has already been covered. I did try a search but got nothing specific to my problem.

I currently have 4 Windows 8.1 Pro units around my desk.
One is general day to day.
One is gaming, audio & video work.
One is a currently retired 'server' for backups.
One is the replacement 'server' for backups.
This contains an SSD system disk, a 2Tb HDD for Macrium Reflect images and 2 Storage Space pools.
One consists of 2x250Gb HDD's called DATA & assigned to drive letter 'D'.
The other consists of 4x1TB HDD's called STORAGE & assigned to drive letter 'E'

The replacement 'server' unfortunately decided to go do-lally :(
All I know is, it suddenly decided to reboot 4 days ago and everything went haywire.

As a result I purchased a new motherboard, CPU, ram with the intention of building a fresh install of windows 8.1 on the basis the storage pools would show up in the new system.

Here is the problem !
The pools show up in Control panel /Storage Spaces as DATA (F:) and STORAGE (G:)
Both pools show as OK and all 6 drives show as OK.
If I click on 'view files' nothing happens :(
If I go to windows explorer they show up as Local Disk (F:) and Local Disk (G:)and if I double click to open I get a 'Location is not available. F:\ is not accessible. The volume repair was not successful'. Same for G:

Why is Storage Space manager saying they are working properly when nothing else can access them?
Are they recoverable somehow or have I lost everything ?

Not technically solved, but I managed to retrieve the files I needed to by purchasing ReclaiMe File Recovery software.

Now in the process of copying everything from the various storage space pools I have on the other units and going back to good old NTFS drives and file comparison software.
