SSD Worth it or not?

I've heard good things about intel and corsair too. I picked an intel for my quote.

I use vertex 2's I have three of them. Two in my desktop as a RAID 0 and one in my laptop I am very happy with all 3 drives

I have used my SSD's as both Boot and storage I was somewhat disappointed at the copy speeds as they were not much faster than my HDD's

Point to note I have had difficulties installing WDP on these drives, funny enough though when I changed my desktop to RAID I had no problems at all.

I am waiting to upgrade to a vertex3, maybe in the new year these are faster than the Revo drive and negate the point in buying one. I have heard of some people having problems with Windows 7 with these drives, hopefully these problems will be solved by the time I get one

I've heard SSD's as being a prime choice for netbook users as their power use is much lower than that of a standard 2.5" drive.

I don't know man, I'm still not convinced in the MTFB, I mean why do I want to go through all that money just for a drive to last a little bit.

Actually, if I get convinced on the SSD route, my new netbook I'm getting will get one. I mean when I'll just have browsing, documents and the OS, storage in the cloud [Dropbox] I guess there's not much to worry... but I want to be convinced first.

My experience is, that I love my SSD's they have made the single most noticeable change since I have been using a Computer

And believe me, there is nothing "bad" about SSDs. I have 5 of them and the oldest (see previous post) is 3 years old. My experience is only positive. However, you have to learn a bit about the SSDs. They differ from HDDs. I found that most people that speak bad about SSDs do that from hearsay and do not even own one or they did not take the time to learn about the technology.

If you look you can find bad things written about anything, and you will always find bad apples in a barrel. In my opinion the only bad thing about a SSD is the price

Cost is a for sure turn-off. But I've been looking around, and I think I'll be happy try the technology out.

I think once I have my new desktop built I'll overhual my netbook. Add some RAM and a new SSD.

I think that is a wise decision Netbooks and laptops are generally about saving energy when running on battery and tend to be slow. This is where a SSD really makes a difference

I know its not the wisest choice but man I'm not going to have all the cash right away for main desktop build. I know I can order part by part but still.

Which ever way you decide to go, SSDs are the most noticeable performance increasing hardware upgrade you can do, everything runs faster.
Use the SSD for a boot drive and a HDD for data storage.

The rumors that SSDs don't last long are extremely exaggerated.

My recommendation for a SSD, Crucial or Intel.

Have read that SandForce controllers are having problems now, BSODs, but some may not experience this.
For me, at this time, I would stay away from SandForce controllers, OCZ, Corsair, etc.
But, that is just my opinion.

Use the SSD for a boot drive and a HDD for data storage.

Plus, you have the option to Raid your HDD's for a little extra 'oomph' if willing to run the RAID 0 gauntlet. Things feel 'slow' with anything involving my single 1TB drive. But when it comes to stuff you don't want to lose 'slow and safe' is better than 'fast and oops'

Redundancy RAID arrays are another performance/data safety option, but with the price of HDD's atm, it's a bad time to be setting one up

An easy and ideal setup: One SSD, 'One' RAID 0 and one non-member storage drive. Throw in a USB 3.0 External and you're laughing.

My Vertex 2 34nm has been a champ, but since that (and 95% of my current rig) is going to my sister, I need a new one.

I went straight for the Crucial M4. Like the intel, it doesn't set the 'benchmarks' on fire, but they are the most stable brands/models currently out there.
