SSD for JUST the OS or for Programs as Well?

As said still use intel on system, put some stuff on it, worth still using it i felt, since good SSD. Remember as you might know, 500GB not what going to show when you install it, least 30 or more GB less. My 512GB shows 476GB.

Well the plan was to buy a 240GB SSD for OS/programs and use my current 120GB Intel SSD for games. I plan on ditching the 64GB Crucial since its old and slower not to mention the fact that it can only house a handful of games.

Problems with 120GB for games is, game tends to be large in number of GB

Correction. I plan to use the 120GB Intel SSD for my FAVORITE games. I also have a 1TB HDD that I use for the majority of my games. [emoji6]

o.k., as we know that software runs faster on SSD, so will games, but sure you will be fine if HDD is 7200RPM.

You guys have been great! Thanks for all the input. Still trying to decide if the 500GB Sammy SSD would be overkill or not. Best Buy currently has a 240GB Intel for $140 but the Sammy drive is twice the space for around $180 (which is obviously more bang for the buck). Just not sure if I'll need all that space...

The Intel and the Sammy drives both seem to be about the same speed so maybe I'll just go with the Sammy drive.

An SSD is faster than a conventional drive so using one for everything will provide optimum performance. In the future there is little doubt that this will be a matter of routine.

The only problem with this is that an SSD sufficiently large to contain all required data is still quite expensive. A 1 TB SSD is going to cost several times that of a conventional drive of similar size. So standard usage of an SSD is for the OS and applications only. They will benefit most from the SSDs performance characteristics and will require a substantially smaller drive than for data.

But be sure to understand that this is purely an economy measure, a compromise between performance and cost. If cost is not an issue you will achieve better performance using an SSD for everything.
