Should Sims 3 install/work on my Aspire|V5 - 531-571?

I bought an ACER laptop called Aspire|V5 - 531/571, in store before I bought it I asked if it was compatible to install/play sims 3 and the man said YES, absolutely, I tried to install it when I first bought it and I got this message:
File D:\GameData/Shared\Packages\FullBuild0.package
Error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Does anyone know what this means? Is it because of my laptop or is it because The Sims 3 disc that I have is a few years old and I need the new version or what?
Also if I download it through the internet to be installed (£29.99) will it work or am I wasting my money? :(
It was the main reason I bought the laptop as well :( !

Thanks, Rosie

An I/O could be caused by the ODD/Optical Disc Drive or by a damaged disc such as scratched or scuffed, bends the laser beam causing it to improperly read the disc. How old is Sims 3? I haven't had to work with a newer version yet. What I have done in the past is to create a Folder on the HDD, open the disc in File Explorer and Select all the files on the disc and copy into that Folder. Then I run the setup.exe file to install. Of course if the disc is damaged it may not copy all the files correctly.

you can just download the game and then active the game by using CD key.

alternatively you can also import/download the game into steam and use the CD key found in CD box, to activate the game, and have it for future use.

Hello, thanks for the response.
Yeah the disc is pretty old, but I don't want to buy Sims 3 again if its not the disc its my laptop.
I see what you mean, I still have it on my older laptop but the screen has a red line down the centre and it keeps typing 'mmmmmmmm' even when I am not touching the keyboard ha which is pretty annoying, that laptop is also old. Cannot win!
Guess I will have to see if I can borrow it from a friend to install!

I believe if you all ready have the game installed and or registered you can use origin to download the game to any computer you want. like if you were changing to a new computer and had it on a old computer.
