I rarely upgrade my notebooks since I’ve been setting my hands on this HP’s ENVY TouchSmart 15 Series Notebook which came with the following specifications:
- Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4702MQ Processor with 6MB Cache
- Samsung’s 8192MB DDR3 SD RAM
- 1TB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
- ADATA’s 24GB SSD Acceleration Cache
- 15.6” Diagonal Full HD BrightView LED Display with 1920x1080 Resolution
- Touchscreen, Multitouch enabled
- Intel HD Graphics 4600
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 4GB DDR5 RAM
- Windows 8.1 RT (x64 Edition)
When I’ve explored the PC through factory installed operating system in it, I’ve been disappointed to see the multiple RAID Volume Settings between HDD and SSD. Anyhow; I’ve ignored the pre-installed settings and then tested the custom applications one by one in order to verify the performance.
A considerable amount of latency and slow performance I’ve so far faced while operating my Outlook PST resource which is of 28GB of size. Because of the sensitivity and importance of resource I’ve to keep with me most of the time, I’ve thus decided to extend the amount of RAM available with the notebook as well as to replace the 1TB HD with Kingston’s 480GB SSD.
So here is current standing available with us:
- Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4702MQ Processor with 6MB Cache
- Kingston’s 16GB DDR3 SD RAM
- Kingston’s 480GB Solid State Drive
- ADATA’s 24GB SSD Acceleration Cache
- 15.6” Diagonal Full HD BrightView LED Display with 1920x1080 Resolution
- Touchscreen, Multitouch enabled
- Intel HD Graphics 4600
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 4GB DDR5 RAM
- Windows 8.1 Enterprise (x64 Edition)
At this stage I’ve allocated 19900-22800 MB of paging file on ADATA’s 24GB SSD and don’t wish to use its meagre amount of storage space for any other purpose. Whereas the system managing paging file already existed on Kingston’s 480GB SSD has been removed.
What I now wish to do is to fully configure ADATA’s 24GB SSD as Ramdisk as well as to manage the paging file (your suggestible size) on the same.
As I’ve never experienced this cherished ‘ImDisk’ before and I’m little confused in configuring the optimal settings as per my wishes.
As far as applications are concerned, I use Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft’s Expression Web, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook simultaneously.
I’ll highly appreciate your expert opinion in this regard.
