Hi there

Now these exist (SATA USB3 connectors) you've now got extremely FAST external laptop PC drives !!!!

If you've replaced a laptop drive with an SSD don't ditch the old drive unless it's REALLY old. If your machine has USB3 use a SATA==>USB3 cable to the PC laptop drive and have it as an external drive -- works SOOOOOPER FAST.

(SATA to USB2 is fine too so in any case don't "Bin" the old drive --use it for backups etc).

Cheers
jimbo

this adaptor is the best way to broke the connectors on the drive. If you want to use an external HD, better use an enclosure like this one, it cost only $ 19 ;

if like me you need a bench r solution to transfer info for many drive , a dock station is the best for not damage the connectors

My experience is that USB3 is way slower than eSata - although one would not think so because on paper USB3 should be faster. There must be a lot of overhead for USB3.

If you have a spare HDD for a laptop as Jimbo describes, another option is to get an eSata PCI Express card for little money. But check first whether your laptop has a PCI Express slot. Some recent ones may not have that.

That together with an eSata enclosure should give best results.

USB3 is THAT much faster then USB2, but not so much when compared to eSATA. Remember SATA is dedicated for drives, the Universal Serial Bus is much more shared with other devices, Keyboards, mice, etc

Why I like to use is the Antec DF cases, they have a how swap 2.5" sata 3 bay on the front top of their case.
