Hi folks my name is Joe, I'm new here and hope I can get some help. I had to do a PC refresh due to virus attacks on my Win 8 laptop. Whether I try in IE or Firefox I can' get YouTube videos to play. I've installed the most recent Adobe Flash player and plugins as well as JavaScript.

When I try in IE I get an error right on the video screen stating there is an error and to click for more info. When checking the info, I've done everything it recommends.

When I try in Firefox it will play a commercial ad but when it's finished just sits idle instead of continuing with the video.

Any help or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

If the scannow solution doesn't work here's a couple more suggestions.

On Windows 8 simply press F12 when you are at the YOU TUBE link - you'll see a console with a load of techno geek stuff -- just from the tools menu go to the drop down and select compatibility mode -- choose one that works say IE9 or whatever -- unfortunately you might have to do this each time you go to YOU tube -- I'm running W8.1 now with IE11 which works a bit differently - so I can't show screen image.

Another possibility is to enable compatibility mode from IE - enable for ALL sites.

The other idea is to update Silverlight - although AFAIK there's now DRM protected content on Youtube.

Cheers

AWESOME Jimbo! Thanks so much. Nothing has worked thus far but I'm going to give all your recommendations above a shot and see how it goes. Thanks again.

Hey buddy I tried your suggestions but apparently win 8.1 is different for win 8. I just keep getting "airplane mode" off and to toggle when I hit F12. I tried the other function keys too but they just come up with volume, brightness and video control modes. I"m running Firefox not IE so I can't do the compatibility mode suggestion either. Funny thing while in Firefox running, it keeps locking up stating that the plug-in is busy and prompts to stop the script. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it still happens. I haven't tried the scannow as I still haven't figured out how to get into the "run" mode. This damned win 8 hides everything. Still checking things out though. Thanks again for your help.

Hi there
Try running CHROME while we look at other possibilities

Okay Jimbo, I uninstalled Firefox. Too many problems with it and refreshed my PC again and am running using IE 10. I loaded Chrome but it's about as user friendly as a thorn bush. However I tried using Chrome to view a youtube vid and it did run but interrupted itself 6 times. So I dumped Chrome too. I'm now running just IE 10 and it just gives me an error on the video screen every time I try to play a video.

Anything you can come up with would be greatly appreciated.

PS: just an FYI, I loaded a fresh copy of the latest releases of Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Play and JavaScript.
