Hey

My computer keeps freezing at random. Before and during the freeze the computer makes a beeping noise (not through the speakers).
it seems like its a software problem seeing how i could hear my friend on skype while the computer was frozen.
Ive got a recording of the beeping sound but its very faint so you might have to turn your volume up.

Hi HavardW,

Welcome to the 8forums.

You say it might be a software problem, lets find out using a clean boot.
Please open taskmanager and msconfig (windows logo + r > msconfig > enter)
In taskmanager
  • go to the tab startup
  • disable everything.
In msconfig
  • go to the tab services,
  • check 'Hide Microsoft services'
  • disable every other service,
  • click apply, click ok and reboot if asked

If the problem does not occur in a clean boot, enable in taskmanager 1 item and in msconfig 1 service.
Keep doing this until you find the culprit.

Did as you said but it is hard to know if it worked or not since the computer freezes at random. It has not frozen yet.

Thanks for the reply

Do the same as you normally would, but then without everything loaded at start.

It doesnt seem to have fixed the issue. The computer still freezes at random and the beeping noise is still happening.

There are a 2 things I can think of that could cause freezes.
Problems with system files, like corruption or missing files
Failing hard drive

Please open an admin command prompt (right click left corner in the bottom > command prompt (admin)) and copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes)
Let me know the result.

For the problem with the sound I need your system specs
Please fill in your system specs
Please go to this site and download the tool. The tool will give you detailed information about your system specs, please fill in your system specs more completely.

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repair
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot."

Please reboot the system and try it again, this a few times until the problem is solved or you have tried it a few times (4-5 times)

Please upload the log file.
If the file is too large, try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive etc.

No I mean the CBS log
When you have a new bluescreen, please use the tool and upload the zip

Apologies, forgot this is the general support section, thought it was the BSOD section.

In the CBS.log file there is no error.

Is the problem still gone?

I dont really understand the instructions on the site you linked.
English isnt my first language so going through all the steps is kind of hard as the traslation of the words dont make alot of sense.
Is there an easier or different way to do this?
