Hello EightForums! This is my first post here, and it's odd because I check back here alot. Anyway, glad to finally get started here. Let's cut to the chase.

Question/Problem: I have Windows Data Recovery Software, and I have run a quick, and full scan over night to my 931.51GB (1TB) HDD that was recently formatted completely via Windows 8.1 Installation Disc. I have crucial files that I did not realize were there in the first place. Doh! I would like to get these back, and thought it was possible to do so with recovery software. However, the quick and full/deep scans I ran only recovered my CURRENT Windows 8.1 Installation. Files that I just put on the HDD last night, (NOT DELETED BTW) have been "recovered". Why are files from my previous Installation (Windows 7 Pro) not being recovered? Is there anything that can possibly be done?

Not familiar with the Windows Data Recovery Software as I have not used that product. But I have used others, and generally speaking, when a drive has been formatted more than once, the software detects this and present a list of different partition schemes, allowing you to choose the one you want.

Also, there is generally a deep scan option that ignores the partitioning and just looks for file and folder headers. I have used this more than once to retrieve old files.

If the sector of the files you are looking for have been overwritten on that sector then surely they are gone. I suggest you download and run Recuva Free, you may get more back before it goes to far:
