Solved PRO yes or no & how to tell for sure?

I bought a pretty healthy HP laptop that's on the list for 10. I read the specs and was under the version of 8.1 was pro. The other day I wanted to get to to the group editor and it failed. I read somewhere that unless you have pro you can't get group edit. Yes/no?

Group policy editor option comes only with Windows 8 pro Edition

Press the Windows Logo key and the pause/break key. That should open the System screen. What does it list for Windows Edition?

How where you launching the Group Policy Editor? Start > Run > gpedit.msc?

Press Window key + R, type winver and press Enter.

For Pro, it will look like this:

Or Search gpedit right click gpedit.msc and select run as administrator
If it don't come up or run you probably don't have Pro.

Worked fine and I have just the regular core windows 8.1, luckily however Amazon and some other places market a MS product called PRO that activates code in OS 8.1 to enable.

The official way to do it is the Pro Pack. You just enter the product code through Add Features. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6673-add-features-windows-8-a.html

just happen to have.......Amazon.com: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro Pack (Win 8.1 to Win 8.1 Pro Upgrade) - Key Card should get you to the amazon page, there are other company's marketing, as well as MC themselves. I tried but couldn't get onto the store to see if it's sold there.

WELCOME, as it turns out I was just over to the store and they do not list it. Guess you'd get it like one gets office 365 etc.

Buying Pro Pack yes/no?

I was talking to tech at HP the other day and I mentioned that I was contemplating getting one & the topic of the upcoming Windows 10 giveaway. Imentioned how I wanted to get 8.1 propack installed before 10 ships, saying that if 8.1 was pro they'd ship 10 pro.......he pointed out the fallicy in my thinking. I haven't heard exactly how it'll work and can see the error in my plan and it'll probably just be a normal windows 10 in any case and buying 8.1 pro pack might just be a bad plan. Thoughts ANYONE??
