Hi. I was trying to not my pc and it needed to configure updates (don't ask which ones cos i have no idea). i had to leave it updating while i went to work but when i came back it was on the bios bit screen. I restarted and it seems it won't get passed this screen any more (it goes to the boys bit screen and to another couple of check screens and then stays on it). I cleared the cmos but didn't help. I can't get to the bios by pressing del key as it doesn't not far enough in and i tried boring from my usb sick with viable windows 8 on but it doesn't bit far enough in to stay booting from the disk. Please help!
I have windows 8 and an asus tuf motherboard. I think it is the 990fx (?)

Ps i just tried disconnecting all hdd and ssds (apart from blu ray burner) and it still doesn't get any further. Please don't tell me it's my mobo and that is screwed! :/

Please excuse the dumb question, but do you have a desktop PC, or a laptop?

On most desktops, in order to really RESET the CMOS memory, you will need to kill all power to the PC, and then take out the CMOS battery for at least 20 to 30 minutes. While the battery is out, check the voltage on it, with a digital volt meter. Don't have a meter? Then just replace the battery with a new one.

You would not be the first person that got hit by an Update that didn't install properly. It happened to me, back in the days when MS was still updating Windows XP. But I wasn't the only one. Several of my customers had the same problem.
That's why I don't trust MS Updates to always install properly. And, that's why I do a Backup Image of my C: drive at least once a week, and a data backup almost daily. Nothing can replace a recent backup when things just go Wrong.
Obviously you don't have a backup that you can just restore, putting things back like they were before the update trashed your PC. Eh?

Best advise: Take your PC to a professional, who can fix it for you. If you were local to me, I'd gladly do that for you.
As a computer repair tech, for 35 years, it's what I do.

Good Luck!

This seems like hardware error.
If you can't even get into the bios, and clearing the Cmos doesn't work, then a hardware component must have blown.
It happens.

I assume you have a desktop PC?

Time to open it and start figuring out which component doesn't work.

Electricity issue = PSU blown.
Electricity works but doesn't boot = check CPU.
Electricity works but doesn't boot = check memory (RAM).
Issue with graphics = check graphics card
Tried everything, nothing makes any difference = could be motherboard.

Components usually lasts for 3 - 7 years, sometimes a bit longer if you are lucky. However it's more convienient to replace them before they blow up themselves.

Sorry for no reply. I disconnected my ssd system drive and the pc worked again. It turns out an update messed something up :/

In my lack of messing with pcs for a while i was ended up stopping the drive anyway and then having a very long winded affair getting my macrium reflect backup restored to the drive as i couldn't find my recovery disc to boot up to and macrium don't offer a download of the disc which i think it's dumb but they claim it is a copyright issue because it use Windows pe. I know that this forum provides links tobpe so im not sure about that.

Anyway i have a mammoth task ahead of me and have been trying things over the last two days to accomplish it to no avail yet. I won't go into much details because i am going to create a new post for it but i need a way to backup desktop applications, settings, etc and then either update from win 8 all the way up to 10 out clean install to 10 and restore all that stuff. The only problem is that my system must be too messed up in its current state to be able to upgrade from the store or iso file or even repair install win 8 first (!)

Anyone willing to help please look for my new topic in about to create if you're up for the challenge lol

Thank you to all who replied to this issue by the way.
