One Drive question.

Ok, since it was bugging me, I bit the bullet and created a MS account. I then activated OneDrive and it appears to work; however, that's as far as I go because I will not attempt to add any files:



Now I will reload my System Image from yesterday which will take about 3 minutes.

It does work. The upgrade though renamed my (Windows 8.1) SkyDrive folder to SkyDrive.old and it then took 3 days to re-synch even though nothing had changed. I do have 60k small text files so it could be that. Even so it seems a bit slow - it is only 3GB.

@edwin and @adamf: That is the information that David was looking for (I believe) so I don't understand why you guys just didn't offer that information initially. Just to confirm that mine works, when you click on your OneDrive app, does it take you to the same screen as mine?

Oh, OK. That just goes to show how much I know about apps (see my avatar). Dummy me, I thought that OneDrive might have been available in Win 8.1 proper. Oh well... on with the show. Thanks for that advisement my friend.

You or anyone else are not dumb for using a local account and not using a lot of MS services. That's simply your choice as it should be.

I see MS peace-mealing the transformation to OneDrive. It's been changed in my WP8, but not on my tower PC. I think that will happen with the official release of the update 1.

I wouldn't say you're a typical dinosaur, for you're willing to adapt to change if you so choose.

So we do have a notable difference; in that, I did a clean install of Windows 8.1. Good point!

Mine is still SkyDrive, David. Did you install the leaked update? It may be problems from that.

No leaked update.

I saw Wynona's screenshot & figured it maybe worked for some & not for others.

LOL! I didn't notice that he's opening a OneDrive folder tile, not the app tile. His app tile is still named Skydrive, which I didn't see either. Typical me > Typical man.

So does the update create a OneDrive folder tile then?

I'm pretty sure it's because of the leaked update. When opening my SkyDrive Store app I can see it's synching everything before totally opening. My disk-writing LCD light and USB wireless adapter are busy.

I think yours is no longer able to connect to the SkyDrive server, so it defaults or redirects to your File Explorer.

You could try the app troubleshooter to see if that helps.

Wait! There is much confusion here:

David did not install the leaked updates but he has a OneDrive folder and a OneDrive app on his start screen.

I have the OneDrive app but I do not yet have a OneDrive folder. I can only assume it would have been created when I attempted to add some files.

The general consensus was that the OneDrive app would not be available on Win 8.1 proper so the big question is: "How did David get that OneDrive app and folder before the official Win 8.1.1 update if he did not apply the leaked updates?"
