No wired internet connection after uninstalling mcafee

Aye thanks Popeye, I did just now. The patient just isn't responding, I'm afraid.

The McAfee product was indeed a free 30-day trial version. As I said, I'd be happy to go back to the condition my notebook was in pre-McAfee removal but I don't know if a factory reset (or whatever) would cause Mcafee to kick in again. With a probable repeat performance of all this at a later date. Like the man said: aaaaargh!

I'd save/backup anything you don't want to lose and do the refresh, then immediately uninstall McAfee and see what happens.
The manually connect to a wireless network missing in Network and Sharing is disturbing.
Is the adapter enabled in "Change adapter settings"?

Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center --> Change adapter settings (left-hand side).

Aye, the adapter's enabled. I think I may be heading for a refresh, if that's the right term.

Unless maybe it's worth uninstalling the adapter again, reinstalling that new version, and rebooting? I'll kind of try anything right now.

You're very patient, Popeye. And I'm very grateful for yr time.

Thought I'd reply to my own thread - with a happy ending, oddly enough.
Having had no time to do anything about this No-Fi situation for the past two weeks, I was just steeling myself to go through with a Repair install as suggested, when I saw the Defender notification for virus updates etc.
Thought I may as well hook it up ethernetically anyway, so did that.
Defender did its thing.
Windows updates came through, installed, all that jazz.
Hey presto! I now have WiFi.
All good. No idea how that happened, though
