Hello Simon,
The SkyDrive desktop app is no longer needed in Windows 8.1 since SkyDrive is now fully integrated in it. Installing the SkyDrive desktop app in Windows 8.1, you will not see any difference.
The red warning box at the top of the tutorial below has more details on this if you like.

Hope this helps,

Hi Brink!
Im sure theres a good explanation, when everybody else says, that the new skydrive app is so amazing, but in my case, not so much.
When i had Windows 8.0, my only problem with the skydrive was, that if i saved some changes to a document, and didnt change its name, skydrive assumed, there were no changes, and just deleted all of my Work, back to the old copy.
After i installed 8.1, the app has been so bad, its ten times easier for me, to use the online version!
If i dont open the app, every time i open the computer, it wont even do an effort in updating my files. Furthermore, theres still the document savings problem, but this time, the app is also so slow, that it takes about twenty minutes to download one document or a Picture (funny enough, it doesnt matter how big the file is, unless its a big movie)
I dont know what to do about it, i hope you can help!
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro on a surface 1 Pro, and if you ask me, im an average user, who doesnt fill his computer with crab, vira, or messes with the sytem-files, so there should be no reason for this.
