I didn't install KB3087916 becaue of the reported problems but see today that I'm being offered 2 Flash player updates. One is the original KB3087916 and the other KB3089023.
Is the later update simply to correct the first ? or should I install just the new offering ?
(Getting seriously annoyed with all these updates and problems caused by updates of late. One reason I'm not going the W10 route with its forced updates)
Windows Update kb3087916 [August] is installing the DEBUG version of Flash ActiveX into IE11 on (32-bit) Windows 8.1 systems.
The issue has been resolved by the release of kb3089023https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3089023
I have been struggling with KB3087916 since yesterday. Installation will fail. ( Alongwith this two other updates KB3004365 and KB 3060716 also failed to install) I tried repeatedly and these three failed to install repeatedly. Only this morning I saw the above thread and tried Windows update again. Alongwith the three failed updates there was this kb3089023 plus two or three new updates.and all updates except the kb3087916 installed successfully.
kb3087916 is still showing up in Windows update. I don't know why. I have just hidden it. Microsoft sucks.
I received following updates this morning and installed without any problems
KB3087985 (security update for IE 11)
KB3089023 (Update for IE Flash Player)
KB3060746 (optional)
KB3066441 (optional)
KB3075249 (optional)
KB3077715 (optional)
KB3078676 (optional)
KB3079318 (optional)
KB3079850 (optional)
KB3080149 (optional)
Thanks. KB3089023 (Update for IE Flash Player) is to fix the broken update from a few days ago. Seems MS are still offering a known faulty update and then issuing a patch to fix that.
Decided I will skip these two and wait until next known good Flash update.
