After trying everything I know and could find I'm crying "uncle" and posting here. I have my first Windows 8 UEFI laptop with a crashed hard drive. Naturally my customer did not make his recovery disks nor make record of his product key. I have no less than 6 times made a UEFI bootable usb to reinstall Win8 but can not get this laptop to boot from any of them. I have used the tutorial on this site to make these usb's,tried other tutorials on other sites, and tried twice using Rufus.
I even removed the bootmgr file as was suggested in a Microsoft article (which would make the usb work for UEFI only.) I am able to change boot mode to CSM and disable secure boot and install Win8 just fine using a dvd but of course it will not automatically activate.
I've tried different drives. I know the new hard drive has to be formatted GPT which I was going to do during the install but I can't see that would have diddly squat to do with why I can't get the setup process started.
What am I missing here? I've only been at this for 14 hours now.
