Okay so I'm really not computer very computer smart and i have no idea where I messed up but somehow I must have messed up my computer and now very few of the metro apps run. I've had this problem ever since i updated to 8.1 but I never asked for help because i was using a third party desktop program that made metro unimportant, but because of mounting problems being caused by aforementioned program I uninstalled it and am now attempting to learn how to use the metro. I talked to a friend and asked how I could fix it and he said the only way he knew of would be to re-install windows 8 but I have too many files I would lose if I were to re-install and he said that even if you go the route where its not supposed to mess with your files sometimes it does anyways. I have no external device where I can back up the files and I guess what I'm asking is how do I fix the apps without losing my files? I'm not a total idiot as far as computers go but if you need information I'll need a step by step explanation of how to get it. So thanks in advance to anyone that takes time to help me and sorry for how frustrating its probably going to be.

I suggest to right click and select uninstall whatever apps that were not working then login into MS Account, run the Store Apps. From there you can re-install them to see if the problem is fixed.
