Microsoft Has Sold More Than 100M Windows 8 Licenses

By most accounts, Windows 8 isn’t all that popular, butaccording to Microsoft’s latest numbers, thecompany has now sold more than 100 million copies of the latest version of itsdesktop operating system. In January, the last time Microsoft provided updatednumbers for Windows 8, the company said that it had passed the 60 million mark. Windows 8 users are alsogetting used to using the Windows Store, it seems, as the total number ofdownloads for the first six months has now passed 250 million.

Microsoft Says It Has Sold More Than 100M Win8 Licenses, Blue Coming "Later This Year"

100 million sold

600 million installed

Corporations need to be held to account. There is nothing wrong with questioning figures if you know what's being stated can be interpreted in a number of ways.

This thread is funny. The general theme of the posts is like; 'Microsoft sold 100,000,000 licences. Here's why that's unbelievably, totally terrible'

lol
This would be news either way if it were Windows 7.

With these kind of figures, why do we need Blue/8.1?

With these kind of figures, why do we need Blue/8.1?

There are necessary changes that need to be done as soon as possible versus in three years. Things such as a metro touch focused File Explorer, a PC Settings that is more of a genuine PC Settings versus a condensed down Control Panel, smaller tiles are REALLY needed when you start pinning lots of stuff on the Start Screen (I guess that my current Start Screen with baby tiles would take two and a half screens worth of tiles down to about a full one screen, so less scrolling and more content) better Start Screen personalization (that is NEEDED for sure) and adapting 8 for smaller 8 inch screens to adopt the phablet form factor. It Microsoft did its traditional three year cycle, they would be left behind and irrelevant for sure. They CANNOT do that anymore. They have to be more agile and quicker to changes.

I expect there is a lot of stock hanging around.

This evening I found another person irl who has tried 8. He can't stand it. That is 3 out of 3.

I am still trying more who have actually had a machine with 8 on it. If I look long enough, I might find the exception that proves the rule.

Most people I know haven't tried it - either because they use macs - or because they aren't looking for a new laptop. Of course, those people don't care.

I'm actually trying to talk some of my clients INTO using it... But as you say, they are not looking for new systems or new OS's - Many of them have just bought new systems last year. My target 8 computer are those with Atom processors or the AMD equivalents- Systems that are fast, but the Processors are tiny. These AMD systems, I forget the name of the processors, E-Somethings. the processor is the size of a 386! But they are fast enough for 7 barely - 8 would run great in them.

I know, right?? These figures mean nothing. I can't count the number of times I have downloaded an app to try and deleted because I have no use for it when I had an iPhone. Not to mention the amount of times downloading when restoring after restore, after restore, especially when I was jailbreaking.

And, a dose of reality.... 900,000 apps seems pretty irrelevant when the average user has only 20-100 useable installed.:D

The actual total number doesn't matter, it's the quality and variety of apps that are available, that's what's completely lacking when it comes to Windows 8. The ratio of crap to good is far higher with Windows 8.
