Lots of browser "Not Responding" and more
Over the past several days, what started as some "not responding" delays when loading many web pages has really made computer a bear (Win 8.1 Pro x64). Here's what I've seen:
- "Not Responding" delays of 10-15 seconds and sometimes a lot more at some point while loading or reloading many, if not most pages (Opera 12.17), but not IE, FF or Opera 27
- YouTube videos load black, with no context menu specific to the video (Opera 12)
- When opening Opera 27 and IE11, Yahoo.com (home page) sometimes shows as not available, tho working fine with Opera 12 at the same time. Haven't seen it with FF
- Task Mgr often showing large numbers of entries for Opera 27 and 12, including several for internet browser plugin wrapper for 12; when I've had to force close Opera 12, its entries remain and have to be manually closed
- Occasionally utiliies have delayed response or go dead and have to be stopped and restarted (e.g., Mailwasher Pro)
- a few other little hangups, such as tinypic.com not page loading file images completely after a (jpg) file itself has been uploaded.
Adobe Flash Player is up to date and I've refreshed winsock.
Background: My desktop computer was running great until a couple of weeks ago when the update from Comodo CIS 7 to 8 sent it haywire and required an in-place Win 8.1 repair install. Afterwards, everything seemed to work fine, although I had some problems with Comodo blocking a lot falsely, the fix being to change the settings to allow warning popups that I could override (it's set to cloud check). I think the the "non responding" started sometime soon after that, but disabling cloud checking when loading pages didn't solve it. My first thoughts have been about Comodo or Flash Player. I have posted on the former's forums w/o response yet. I uninstalled and reinstalled both versions of Flash Player for non-IE browsers with a reboot between, but that didn't solve it.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Update: Here's an example of a page that just was not responding, both initially loading and afterwards when I click in the address field: Worst rule in football wipes out Griffin touchdown | ProFootballTalk
