Lost Windows 8.1 Pro after restore

Hello,


I restored my laptop in order to overcome some issues and it reverted my 8.1 pro to just 8. I have now installed all updates and applied 8.1 but how can I get pro back without buying it again?


I have used Belarc advisor to get my key but it doesn't work when I use the 'add features to windows' option.


Can anyone please advise?

Hello Vlad06 and welcome. If you mean "recovery" instead of restore and your laptop came with 8 and an 8 recovery partition then it will recover to 8 not 8.1 Pro. You'll have to then upgrade to 8.1 as you did before and use the key you got when you upgraded.

Any utility that you run "now" to retrieve your product code is just going to read out the currently in use code. If your PC came with 8 Core preinstalled that product code will be your 8 Core OEM code. To get 8 Pro you'll have to enter the Product code you originally entered the first time you used add features. Now, if we misread things and your issue is that you now have 8.0 and want 8.1, then just upgrade to 8.1 though the Windows Store. It's free through the Windows Store if you already have Windows 8.0.

You will have to choose the option to "upgrade this version of Windows", then re-input the key that you got when you bought the upgrade. Chances are it will say that you have to call to activate, but that should just make you call the robo number and input the code and it will give you a code back. I've done that numerous times without issue.
