Hi,

Having upgraded to Windows 8.1, from Windows 8, I find that after several days, my Lock Screen, which |I set to one of my favourite images, reverts to the default screen set by Microsoft.

I keep resetting it, via PC and Devices >> Lock Screen >> Lock Screen Preview

Is this normal

Hello Theo,

There are two types of lock screens in Windows 8/8.1. One is the user's lock screen that displays when they are signed in and lock the PC. The other is the default lock screen that displays when no users are signed in.

If you have Windows 8 Pro on a domain or Windows 8 Enterprise installed, then you could use the tutorial below to set a default lock screen for all users that will be the same for both types.

Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for this advice; according to my System information, I have 8.1 Pro.

Given this, I have followed the steps, in your link, below.

So, hopefully, my selected image will now always appear, in the "Default Lock Screen" on boot up!

I'm still a little confused, as to why, previously, my selected image for my "Personal Lock Screen" should have appeared during the boot up sequence; specifically, since I had closed my PC down completely (logged off) - My "Personal Lock Screen" image was then present for several subsequent boot sequences; but then, on say the eighth boot up sequence, the "Windows Default Lock Screen" returned.

Thanks again, for your advice/help,

Theo

I'm not sure either Theo. There have been many of strange issues with the update/upgrade to 8.1 from 8 that haven't been ironed out yet it seems.

I'm happy to hear that it's holding using that.

Hi Shawn,

So far, I think the upgrade is an improvement, and I'm finding its keeping my brain, active - this essential for a 75 year old!

Windows 8.1 and the pills keep me going!

Hi Shawn,

Thought that I would let you know, that despite following the procedure, in your link, my Lock Screen has reverted back to the Windows default Lock Screen - I give up!

Unfortunately, it's not going to work on Windows 8.1 Pro unless it's joined to a domain, or if you have Windows 8.1 Enterprise installed.

Don't give up hope though. I'm sure that there will eventually be a free 3rd party program out there that will sort it in all editions of Windows 8.1.
