Metro applications do not support DirectShow, which is what is used for all current third party codecs. This sucks, because my ideal Windows 8 setup (as a HTPC) REQUIRES the metro apps to be able to handle my .MKVs and subtitles. I could probably convert them all to Windows 8 native codecs, but that takes forever and I can't guarantee the quality will be as good (let alone the subtitles still work).
Anyone know of any useable third party Media Foundation codecs? Thanks.
What I need:
MKV support
MPEG 2 and MPEG 1 support would be nice
Subtitle support, either by .srt files or intergrated.
thanks.
