I have to agree that Win 8 on a Lenovo Laptop is a slow, a**draggin p.o.s*IT. I absolutely hate how dogged this pos is especially during bootup. I mean come on Microsoft. I have an i7-3630QM CPU @ 240GHz with 8.00 GB Ram (7.78 usable), 1TB Hard drive (no not ssd) fresh machine (3 weeks old nothing added) extras turned off in MSconfig and Ctrl+Alt+Del ( dumb separation there MS) and it still takes 4 to5.5 minutes to fully boot to a usable state. Are you KIDDING ME?
Hi there
I can't understand how that hardware takes forever and a day to boot. I use a much less powered small ACER aspire V105 11.5 inch machine fitted with an i3 -- much less powered than your machine -- and even BEFORE I swapped the HDD for an SSD performance on W8 was more than acceptable -- with an SSD it flies. -- I removed the installed W8 and re-installed W8 from scratch so got rid of all the crapware etc.
Lenovo is pretty good in general - I'd suspect that the bottleneck is the HDD -- the 1TB might be a slow 5400 RPM model with a TINY cache. Poor I/O will kill any system even a super CRAY.
I really would be surprised if a CLEAN W7 install will net you ANY performance improvement over a CLEAN W8 install.
Now whether you LIKE W8 or not is another issue --I can understand if you want to go back to W7 but one thing that even HATERS of W8 agree on is that its performance is generally much slicker than W7.
If also you swap the HDD in the laptop you could use the old HDD as an external drive with a USB==>SATA cable. Fit the laptop with an SSD and you'll be amazed at the difference.
I have a feeling just reverting back to W7 in this case for performance reasons will leave you disappointed.
Cheers
