Is Windows 8.1 better to play videos?

I must have been lucky to be able to play HD video on a old computer? I got hold of a high performance vintage computer from 2010 Dell T3500 with 24GB of ram that i am very pleased with, when you don't play games it is nearly impossible to use all. A regular phone uses between 2 or 3gb. With a GDDR3 Nvidia Quadro Fx 5300 graphic card on 256mb that costed 1600dollars back in 2006. GDDR3 plays video in a better smoth way and uses less power. A standard 1080p video when playing in Vlc only use 4-7% of the cpu. And the highest video avaible in 120fps only uses 10% of the cpu. 8k is the same. And the the graphic card is from 2006. It has a Intel® Xeon® Processor E5645. 12M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 5.86 GT/s Intel® QPI. It must be a special computer. Were to find 120fps videos or in 8k? I tried in Youtube but aren't sure they are real 120fps or 8k. I am surprised this old computer can handle this with only 10% cpu usage.

Hi Oldschool :)

There's many 120fps sources, here's a few.
--> 8K Demo Archives - Wilderness Video 8K Stock Footage
--> Free 120 Fps Stock Video Footage - (1,356 Free Downloads)
--> https://vimeo.com/search?q=4k 120fps - 4k 120fps at Vimeo

On the 8K site, at the bottom in green there's a link to download the sample file... as far as 8k resolution, do you have a display that has a horizontal resolution of 7k plus pixels? Also, the clip will matter, a slow motion scene of a bird with his beak in a flower will be less demanding than an action clip.

I would be afraid to test my laptop at 1080p120, it might very well ignite and melt :)

I happened to read an 8K playback FAQ somewhere when I was looking for links for you, anyhow, I was astounded at IIRC in the FAQ it mentioned these numbers... I have no idea of this is true, but the random numbers given (around the interwebs) for 8K content is somewhere between 6GB to 8GB / minute.

For a 2hr movie: (~ = roughly)
1080P = ~6GB
2K = ~10GB
4K = ~28GB
8K = ~108GB

All I can say is WOW! As it stands now with my limited plan I could play 1 8K movie a month.

I'm trying to figure out, what the OS has to do with playing a video.???
I manage to play everything I want, using Windows Media Player and the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

My only problem playing a lot of U-Tube videos, is how long it takes to download them. Some days my internet connection seems to really drag. :(
