Is 8 and 8.1 creating OS illiterate smartphone users?

To me, what MS should have done was to focus on the desktop experience with Windows 8.x but also add the App store and Metro Apps as mobile first apps that can be used in desktop. So devs can create Windows 8 apps and users can use Windows 8 apps but don't have to deal with the disconnect of two disparate UI's.

Then in Windows 9, introduce the full Metro environment. We'll get to that place either way Windows 9 when Metro apps can be used in the desktop, but MS should have reversed the introduction--apps first, then UI. It should have been gradual instead of the full on change of Windows 8. In the end MS just wants you to use Metro apps from the app store and it doesn't matter if it's on desktop or in the Metro UI.

Appears to me with many recent posts that new 8/8.1 users are kind of Windows illiterate. Is it because of the smartphone/tile/android generation?
Nah. I was pretty illeterate anyway - din't need no phone.

No need to argue. I know all these nums. I have been in the IT business since 1961 and seen it all. There are always cases where you can try to prove one point or another. Let's see in 5 years how it plays out.
The problem is that Microsoft will not be around in five years.

Said everyone, every year and with EVERY release of Windows....

Not going to happen anytime soon.

when is the next Windows coming out
next week ,it called win8.1.1 ,lol
starting to get like mac, my MacBook is 10.6.8,i think it started with 10.4.1 for me

I'll tell ya, Windows 8 seems more and more like the new Vista as time goes on. I'm trying to like it, it has good points, but
2 whole years after its release and it's still a work in progress(not much of it at that), that's smelling like MS are lost on this one.
Don't worry, they'll fix it as they did with vista 2.0: Windows 7. ;)
