I received an email from HP yesterday highlighting Desktops available with Windows 7. Evidently they believe there is an XP user market ready to buy new pc's with Windows 7. They probably are right. Interesting!

Not at all. I just bought a zbook and you could choose whether 7 or 8 was installed. Same case with comparable Dell or Lenovo.

You get less choice if you buy your PC in a supermarket - that is all.

This topic was posted on the eighth's about a year ago. So it would appear that the computer manufactures still have OEM licenses setting around that they would like to get off the shelves and on the street, thus a good way to bring in more income and off load some stock. . .in this case Windows OS's.

I just bought an HP with 8.1 installed but it has downgrade rights to 7. I could have done the reverse and had 7 installed with upgrade rights.

It isn't shifting old licenses - it is just some people prefer one thing or the other.
