Solved How to turn on Windows Defender

I thought of the above a long time ago but, because I use Kaspersky I think, the option for Defender is not listed. If you bring open the anti spyware options, it is there, BUT the activation button is faded out.

On my laptop, I use Microsoft Security Essentials and the Defender is listed and on/off is NOT faded. And is on.

Solution is therefore that if you have a third party security system it permanently disables Defender.

Aza: My daughter got a new laptop recently, the first thing I did was remove the Symantec Norton files and then manually deleted the symantec folder (its contains tracking bugs believe it or not, which remain active after Norton is deleted). I always remove norton from any new machine because its intensive heavy on pc usage and slows it down.

Fastest pc running is on MSE closely followed by Kaspersky.

Hi Guys
I'm using Win 8 Pro and following some advice on another thread I went to check my Windows Defender via 'all apps'

When I click on it I just get the following message...........

"Windows Defender has been turned off and it isn't monitoring your computer"

I've tried a few things but seem to come up with the same message whichever way I try to start Defender. obviously I'm a bit worried that my machine might be unprotected.

Any advice?
I have found out the correct solution to fix my computer. To open Windows Defender back up, you first need to open up control panel. Move your mouse the right of your screen and a bar will show up. Click "Settings". Once you have clicked settings, towards the top right side of the computer, their will be five selections. One is control panel, and that is what you need to click on to open it up.
Next, search "uninstall" in the control panel search bar. An option will show up that says "Programs", and under that is uninstall. Click that. Once you have been taken to the uninstall selection, uninstall everything that you have installed to protect your PC that has not previously come with the computer. One example may be "PCKeeper". Once you have done that, in the bottom right corner, a message will say something, like, "Your PC is not being protected by any Malware or Virus protection." Then Windows Defender should open up. If not, then you need to once again move your mouse to the right side of the screen and click search. Once you have been sent here, type in "Defender" (without the quotes) and Windows Defender should show up. Thank you for reading.
