I just installed the Windows Media Center feature on my Win 8 Pro edition. After the installation and reboot, I'm now seeing the Windows Edition name in the lower right corner of the desktop.

Is there a way I can remove that?

Thanks,
Greg

You did check for windows updates? I remember installing WMC and the message.. But it did go away on it own.. But check activation

This is what I learned...hopefully it's not too confusing, even though I'm not sure I understand it yet. This computer I'm posting about, I just got it new on Friday. When it started up it went through screens resembling Windows installation. Well, I thought it registered and activated the OS, but it didn't.

I had a product key to add Windows Media Center. So I went to add the feature and I entered the product key, not knowing the OS was not activated yet. That's when I saw the Windows Edition in the lower right hand corner of the desktop.

I looked for the product key, usually on a label on the back of the machine but there was nothing. And it was not included in any paperwork. I called Dell Technical Support and they told me that they send information about my machine to Microsoft after it is delivered. And, then Microsoft activates it about a week after I have it. I've not heard of that before maybe some of you on the forum are more familiar with this process.

So I suppose I wait til after Friday and see if it clears up.

Any thoughts from you? aka, restore the image back prior to the installation? wait and see if the miracle occurs?

Thanks,

If you haven't already, you might see if you may be able to activate by phone with your WMC key.

Thanks Shawn, I think after talking to Tech Support I'll give it til Friday and see what happens. This activation process they are using now is new to me, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt before I do anything else.

Since this is a New Dell Computer, (and I do a boat load of them)

go into Control Panel - Recovery - Create a Recovery Drive

Boot from recovery media and reset the factory image..

Not only will this fix the invalid password - you will also gain Hard Drive Space..

Which is way more noticeable on Dell Tablets with small drives

Once windows is activated - enter WMC Product Key (But you already figured that out)

Where did you get your MC key from? And has it been used on more than one PC. Your PC must have been already activated with 8.1 Pro or you wouldn't have been able to upgrade to 8.1 Pro with MC. As far as I know 8.1 Pro has to be activated or your MC key will not be accepted at all, you won't be allowed to add it. Your watermark shows 8.1 Pro with Media Center so you did upgrade to MC but your PC did not activate with the MC key. The MC key becomes the new key your PC activates with. It looks to me that your MC key is the issue, not the OEM install that Dell did. Your OEM product code is embedded in the BIOS.

EDIT: The watermark will go away once your system is activated.
