Horribly annoying but minor problem.

Hey, this is my first post here. I simply could not find an answer online and figured this would probably be my best bet.

This problem may seem absolutely tiny to most, but to someone like me, it's a constant source of unnecessary annoyance, and I would love to rid my PC of it immediately.

Where the 3 arrows are pointing, you'll notice the slight white lines that stick down over the green. That's my apparently "hidden" taskbar that refuses to stay hidden. No matter what, there is always that super obnoxious white box there, and I cannot stand it.

Does anybody have an idea on how I might solve this minor annoyance? I would much appreciate it.

Hi Icarus and welcome to Eightforums,

It seems to me that you are having this issue using Google Chrome browser. To me it seems a problem with Google Chrome, not Windows 8.

Do you have this issue using Internet Explorer 10?

You also might want to check for new videocard updates. Otherwise you could inform Google of this problem.

It happens with any window, not just Chrome. The task bar just never fully hides itself, no matter where. I tried to download the AMD graphics driver detector app: AMD Driver Autodetect

But it says it cannot find my OS or Graphics Card. I had another computer a few weeks back with Windows 8 and it did the same thing there as well. I'm not sure what could be causing it.

edit: Ended up downloading the amd catalyst software and updated what I am allowed (I hate this program), and it did not fix it.

Yes sir, the pic shows where it sticks out at the top. When I put it at the bottom it does the same clipping. It never fully hides, I can even see the green across the bottom/top.

I never used Auto-hide. Just tried it with Taskbar at the bottom and I get the same thing though it's very hard to see. Looks to be the top of running task icons.

I don't think you are going to find a fix for this.

Oh, so it's just a design "flaw" or whatever, then? Hmm, you definitely have the same problem, and that's when it's fully hidden?

Kind of a relief to know it's not my monitor or something!

I tried those steps, unfortunately it still sticks out like a sore thumb. The black offsets the white and makes it worse, so I guess there isn't really anything I can do. Thank you though!

edit: his post was deleted? I didn't double post, as I was responding to somebody.:(

Its not really a flaw, it to make sure you dont forget that its there..

Maybe if theres a util that will make it tranparent it will blend with your background..

If not, try these tweaks

Right click desktop >> personalize >> color (on bottom)

Taskbar color white.jpg Taskbar color gray.jpg Taskbar color black.jpg

The first is the default second is Gray Third is custom, set to black

As you can see on the top of the screen the task bar noticability dropping..

Hope this helps... I know that on some monitors that taskbar is pretty thick even when hidden...

sorry for the double post, it looked too big on my screen before, so i cropped but still big..

That helped immensely for when I am on my desktop, unfortunately with programs open it's now worse, due to dark colours. Thank you though!

Have you checked your Display setting (the Catalyst settings NOT Windows Display) to be sure they are on Full Screen and NOT Aspect Ratio or possibly adjust your resolution to see what happens, but my money is on Full Screen.

Ive just went through three taskbar hiders, they all have the same issue.. But oddly theyre not consistent.. On two of them they are completely gone until you open a browser or other full screen app.. then it appears like magic!
Maybe it is a flaw in windows.. Hide means hide!!!

If you have a desktop monitor you can stretch the vertical sync about 1 or 2 pixels and that should push the dreaded line over the edge.

I doubt very much that you will miss 1 or 2 pixel rows not being displayed...

In searching for a program for you, i did come across some eyecandy, thanks.. Its called Winstep Extreme.

Now winstep does actually eliminate the taskbar, but it substitute it with its own..

Im still tweaking it to see if I can make them all go away.. and bring them back on demand..

You're brilliant sir. You reminded me with the vsync thing, that I can simply adjust my monitor to stop displaying the top 1 pixel, thus it's fixed.

It seems like that's really the only way to do it without downloading entire taskbar replacements, but it worked easily. Thanks again, it's very nice to not see it now!

I remembered this from when I had a TV with weak vert sync caps, and I eventually lost the tops of the heads of the news anchors, and the scrolling marquis...

Then i remembered messing with a CRT monitor doing the same, hopefully you can do the same with an LCD.

I couldnt do it on my laptop monitor, wont let me tweak the Nvidia settings.. :(

Ding, Dong, The taskbar's dead! :dinesh:

Not sure if my LCD would allow it, but simply adjusting the vertical/horizontal lines fixed it. My monitor is just a stock HP lcd.

Can you post a screen cap of the settings page that you used?

Im able to change the size of the vertical height in pixels, but I still see the line....
