HomeGroup Icon on win 8.1 desktop

HI there i have the HomeGroup Icon on my desktop and restarting doesn't help to remove this Icon if anyone could help me remove this icon without disabling HomeGroup would be awesome.

There seems to be a bug where the HomeGroup icon can reappear at random

Right Click on desktop->Personalize->Change Desktop Icons then tick on Network to enable, Apply, untick on Network to disable, Apply.

Hello Tony,

If that doesn't help, then see if temporarily disabling your network connection may have it go away (possibly after a restart), then enable your network again.

Right clicking on the desktop and doing a refresh works for clearing the Homegroup icon. My netbook was giving me a problem with the icon appearing about half of the time on a reboot or start. Shawn's registry tweak from this blog seems to have fixed it for me. I downloaded the "Remove_HomeGroup_Desktop_Icon.reg" file and merged it as instructed and haven't had the icon to appear since.

That one has not always worked in Windows 8, but I'm glad to hear that it did for you Mick.
