Hello We bought a new computer for my granddaughter. Since non had Windows 7 on it, (which I know how to use)
We had to buy one with Windows 8. Learning to find out how to remove All the ads and non needed programs has been an ongoing challenge. Right now she only wants to go to very few sites. but Ads along with false java download keep poping up on her browser even thou I tryed hunting down anything that might call them up

She has Mccaffee virus scan and regitpro (I think its called that , she is using pc at thistime so I cant check.)

Is there a way to block a url? These popups do not show up on my computer when I go to the same page as she is on. ITs like an online ad program it adds more ads to websites you visit that are not on the actual website.

We still have tons to learn on how to tweek the pc to suit a 8 year olds habits. And make it so I can fix things when things do go wrong.

I think discussing ad blocking is agains forum rules as that is how this site is financed.

If you see more ads on this new computer than on an old one, then I think you have picked up a little creature on the new PC.

Try running anti-malware software like Malwarebytes or AdwCleaner. I have seen this phenomenon on friend's computers, and Malwarebytes should help you to get those little annoyances off of your computer.

run malwarebytes and if it finds it clean then put firefox browser on and install the add on- Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon and it will get rid of the popup ads

I am not blocking ads that are legitimate from sites like this. this is one that is added in from a seperate site, as they dont show up on other machines, just the brand new one. And it also opens a seperate tab some times many of them with either ads or false "you need to update click yes" pages. Plus this is a childs computer I am working to keep her from accidently hitting ad that might be trying to download malware onto her system.. like the fake Java or fake update your browser virus.

since you say this is a child computer then you most certainly want to put on firefox as the main browser with addons like i mentioned above and also No script addon and WOT to protect the child from going to bad places. You can configure all of the addons separately especially for children safety

will be working the addons in today long as netflix works and she can get to her lego dot com and the school lesson sites she would be happy.

For the noscript addon. You will have to allow the scrips for those two sites she goes to, it will remember the next time she clicks on it, it is a pain but a worthwhile pain
