Solved HD 6970 Driver Issue

So I tried to instal the win8 preview driver from ati and that failed and made a mess and after 3 hours of fighting I have 12.1 installed except the driver isn't actually installed. I tried going to the device manager and telling it to update the driver and then to search in the folder that the driver is in and it just said my driver was up to date nothing more. It left the WDDM v1.20 installed which is crippling things here.

Any idea what to do to force the driver to go in correctly? I couldn't find any answers looking through the forum here.
