Solved Got my Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8 phone last night...

Sorry to hear that, Geeve! I've read about this problem also. I wonder how a product goes bad after all the testing before released?!! One would assume they test the hell out of them. Art doesn't seem to have problems. It's the same model, correct?

Not sure either! Yeah same model. I have read that some folks have trouble and others don't, I don't know if it's a batch problem or what, but they are going to exchange it this afternoon. My local store has them in stock....

Most likely OS updates or mobile vendor updates which caused an issue which came after all of the original testing.

Got it yesterday and it has rebooted itself over 100 times since we turned it on, 20 times in the first hour after taking it off the charger this morning at 7 AM. Supposed to go exchange it tonight. If the second one does the same thing she is going back to Android :( I guess this is a known problem, and MS and Nokia are working on it, But it could take several months to get the fix out. Hers is not usable at all :(

Geeve
That sucks.

Hopefully the replacement works fine! :)

I'd imagine Nokia and Microsoft will release an update within a month or so to fix it. I remember when I first got my Nokia Lumia 900, there were some reports of people experience data loss even though they were connected. Nokia announced that they know about the issue, will have an update out in three weeks time, apologized, and even went to the extent of paying back the 100 dollars to buy the phone on contract! That's why I love Nokia, they know customer service and that is one of the reasons why I'm going with the Lumia 920, other than it being awesome! They ended up releasing the patch fix for the 900 in like a week and a half earlier than expected. They also had reports of purple tinting on the keyboards with some phones, which they fixed a bit later. It seems like some bad apples, no pun intended, and the same is going with Windows Phone 8.

So far so good on the replacement phone! Been on for about 45 minutes now and it hasn't rebooted yet :) She loved the phone when it worked so it's good that this one seems better.

I had read Nokia was sending phones out to folks as well that were reporting the problems. I have heard nothing but good things about there customer service. I am going to baby sit this one till I leave work and see what it does....

Hooray!! :dinesh:

LOL! I know that all to well....

I had my nephew who is visiting bring me the phone so I could do the exchange. He was kinda upset because I was going to pick him up and take him so we could go to Guitar Center but I explained to him "Man, I wanted to do this early because we gotta keep Mama happy. When Mama's happy the house is happy, and when the House is happy then both you and I will be too." :) He laughed and understood, still gonna take him though when I get home, but this time Mama has a working phone and that will keep her busy.

Two hours and all is looks great with this phone.......

I want one BAD!!!!!!!!!

Here is a low light shot we took last night in between reboots....

It was about 5:30 and getting dark. The picture quality of this phone is amazing!!!

This is an action shot, she is swinging :)

Nice pics with it indeed! In action with no blurr. Amazing technology!

Two hours without reboot is good! Still hoping it holds!

Cute daughter, Geeve! I take it she looks more like her mother? :p

Gosh, those pictures! I can't even tell if they're low light AT ALL! Amazing!

She does look a lot like her mother for sure, but in no way can I deny she is mine :)

Yeah the camera is crazy good. the auto flash was on and it didn't even flash. She told me it was some app she downloaded that takes like 5 pics really quickly and you can pick the best one. Kinda cool if you ask me!

Since the exchange we have had no trouble with the phone at all, it runs like a champ! I am still thinking it was a bad batch as the one we have now said it was built later than the first one we got. I want one for myself really bad, come on January!!!

Geeve

Edit: the photo app was called "Smart Shoot"

There is this Nokia lens app I've read that that you can take like, five pictures, and you can edit out certain bits from that image to perfect it. There is also another one that makes like a .gif image. For example, a picture of someone posing in front of a flag can have that person as a still image, where the flag is waving in the background. It's like Harry Potter magic!!

Oh good! Happy wife = happy husband for sure! I love a happy ending to an adventure. :)

My contact is up with Vz at the end of January, also. I've already made up my mind to get a Lumia. I'm buying outright and forgetting contracts. I'll go prepay. 10 more weeks and counting!

But, that means I'll have to wait on my Surface Pro or another mobile machine until Spring unless I land a good contract, which I doubt right now. Things are lean for me now. :( I haven't made my mind up on which machine yet. On the other hand, hopefully they'll have kinks worked out of the Windows 8 machines by then.

BTW, I've never been to heaven, but I've been to Oklahoma. Great place and great song! :)

Speaking of prepaid, you might have to import it from Rogers Canadia as they have the unlocked pentaband Lumia 920. Theoretically T-Mobile should have their LTE network refarmed for the 1900 frequency as the Lumia 920 doesn't support the 1700 bandwidth they use for theirs. I need to go and interrogate them about this as they have a Lumia 710 on their prepaid 4G service that runs on their 1900 GHz bandwidth.

30 dollar monthly fees without contractual obligation, here I come!

I'm now facing the dreaded "random battery drain issue"... My L920 has completely drained from 100% battery to less than 20% in an hour or so several times this week. I did some of the things that were recommended on this site (Nokia Lumia 920 - Windows Phone Central Forums) and so far, so good. I'm hoping the problem is software-related and not an ongoing issue. I still love the phone, I just want to get this issue resolved...

Yep, I've uninstalled almost everything and have killed all background tasks, then I'll run it for awhile and add things one at a time. Intermittent problems are the worst kind to troubleshoot!

Good way to go about it. Does Windows 8 phone have a startup folder like the OS? Any kind of app startup options? Android doesn't. One has to kill them at reboot. Then there's some you can't kill and no option to uninstall. Then there's apps that aren't "available through your service provider" What a crock! One should be able to have more control. That's the problem with locked phones and service contracts.

Rant over. :D

Battery drain issues are really the awful part of these phones. No matter the make, brand...it seems they always have the same issues. Tons of crap apps available which might be horrible on battery life. Seems like with a new phone you spent the first few days installing tons of stuff and then the next few days uninstalling everything trying to determine which is draining the battery.
