Even if you don't like Windows 8, you can still get good useful information here on this forum that will help you on things other than Windows 8. It may also help you to find answers to the problems you had with 8. When I first got the new operating system, I hated it. But now that I've used it for a while I have found things that I like better than 7. But that's me and doesn't necessarily mean that you will feel the same thing. But maybe if you stay with the forum you'll find some answers. Best regards whatever you do.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the email setup on 8. Yes I used classic shell & had my start menu & I even had it boot to the desktop. I installed live mail from 7 & had all kinds of trouble sending & receiving mail. It was not compatible with 8 Many times to do simple steps on win7 was easy but with 8 it just added steps & searching to do the same thing. I have a ssd on my desktop & with 8 I had 15 sec startup & now with 7 I am back to 40 secs startup which is ok with me. Also in opening items from the desktop it would be a metro window with no menu or other easy commands I could go on & on but I did go back to 7 & I am a happy camper. Thankss for you replies. jimjoh.

Did you try changing program defaults so things open in the Desktop versus a metro app?

Hi jimjoh, sorry to see you go.
I am running Windows 8 Pro OEM from a commercially bought disk, and I have it on a Corsair SATA3 SSD HD, as a single installation. Even before restoring the Start Menu using Ex7ForW8, I was able to download and successfully run Windows Live Mail, no drama at all. In default it has auto log in to Windows Live turned off, so acts like any normal client.
With Ex7ForW8 you actually import files from Win7 by running the Win7 installation disc when installing Ex7ForW8. So you get the fully functional original Win7 Orb Start Menu, and are running Explorer 7. There is a switch to toggle backwards and forewards between Explorer 7/Orb Start Menu and Explorer 8/Metro if you ever need to use Metro.
Just one question. You say you installed live mail from 7. Do you mean you imported it or did a fresh down load? I'd suggest downloading WinLiveMail direct from a donwload link from the desktop, not the Metro, Inernet Explorer from apps. That's how I did it.

I have Windows Live Mail installed and had problems sending mail - seems as if something changed my outgoing from 'stmp' to 'pop'. Once that was corrected, i had no problem sending mail.
The native Mail app i was able to somehow figure out how to add my default account, but couldn't for the life of me remember how i did it and wasn't able to add anymore. So Windows Mail it was!

I know how you feel because I did the exact same thing. I installed then went right back to Widows 7. One day I decided that it was me and not the OS so I once again installed Windows 8, determined to make a go of it.
So here I am and I'm glad I made the switch for a couple of reasons. Not the least being that I own a computer company an when my clients start asking me about the new OS I want to be able to give informed answers. As for the navigation, I am used to it now and it only took a couple of days so I can't see adding all the tweaks to make 8 look and act more like 7. You might as well stay with Windows 7.

I don't think people are quite understanding 8 compared to 7, the fact is that the OS is designed for touch screens, a whole new user interface is needed for that, tbh, I love the new interface and even though it's a bit cumbersome to get used to, I find it a breath of fresh air compared to the usual start button and "desktop" environment, I'm using a mouse, the mail client is obviously designed for a smaller screen, that's the only issue I see with 8, the "apps" are designed for smaller screens and when using a 24" screen, it can really make everything seem out of place, I hope you can give it another go at a later date Jimjoh, maybe on a touchscreen device, it makes a lot more sense when used on a tablet.
I am also saying good bye to windows8 in fact I am now saying good bye to micro sh*t as I have just thrown over 1 grand of their rubbish into the bin and gone over to the Mac after many hours of problems. As soon as the Mac is up and running the laptop is having it's op changed to freeware.
