Solved Freezing on splash screen

Hi all,

I'm building a HTPC and thought I would try Windows 8 on it. I downloaded the ISO and burnt it to a disk, but when I booted from that on the new PC (with a totally clean HDD and no existing OS) it would freeze on the splash screen - a black screen with the word "Windows" in white.

I tried the disk in my Win7 box and it seemed happy to run setup.exe that way, so I installed Win7 on the new HTPC and then installed Win8 over the top. It seemed to install ok, until it had to reboot. Now booting off the HDD with Win8 installed, it gave me the same problem as on the CD - hanging on the splash screen.

My system is built with the following hardware:
AMD A8-3870 (am using the onboard GPU - no additional graphics card)
ASRock A75 Pro4-M motherboard
8GB G.Skill DDR3 RAM
WD Green 1TB HDD (partitioned into 300GB/700GB for OS/Data)

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I had a bit of a look through existing threads but there are so many "freeze" threads it's hard to find any that match my circumstances.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Solved!
I needed to update my ASRock motherboard drivers. The latest BIOS had some patches to support Win8.
I needed to reinstall from scratch again as my first install was broken when it couldn't reboot properly, but I have it all working now. Huzzah! =)
