Found something else wrong with FF. It does nto like some html pages online. I have just done some work on an html page and reloaded it back online. When I checked it in FF, the alignment was all wrong, all on the left of screen. But when I view it in IE11, the table is correctly situated down the centre of the screen.

Seems to me, like stated previously, FF does not like 8.1 .....................

Bring Back the 'Save My Tabs and Quit' Feature

In Firefox 31.0 and up.

1.PNG

History settings should be at default and Start Page settings would NOT be set to 'Show my windows and tabs from last time'

Type 'about:config' (without the quotes) in the address bar and press Enter, click on the 'I'll be careful, I promise' dialog,
then navigate to: browser.showQuitWarning and toggle its value to True.
That's it.

Firefox 'Cleanout'

Uninstalling or Cleanly Installing Firefox

If you are experiencing strange issues or a performance degradation in Firefox, and no amount of troubleshooting has helped resolve it, then do a complete uninstall and cleanout as covered below.

If you are updating from a relatively older version of Firefox, it is recommended that you completely uninstall it, do a thorough cleanout of any traces of it as covered further below, and then install the latest full Firefox package. This will prevent a wide range of problems down the track, particularly as settings and customizations from previous Firefox versions may conflict with, hide, or hinder certain new Firefox features or performance benefits.

To completely remove all traces of your current Firefox installation from your system, follow these steps:

1. Backup components of your existing Firefox profile. The Firefox profile contains all of your settings and customizations. Its recommended backing up and restoring only your Bookmarks and Passwords, not your entire profile, as that will defeat the entire purpose of doing a fresh installation of Firefox.

2. Go to the Windows Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP; or Windows Control Panel>Programs & Features in Windows Vista/7/8, find the 'Mozilla Firefox' entry, select it and uninstall it. During uninstallation tick the 'Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations' box. Make sure you've performed step 1 first if you want to backup any of your Firefox customizations.

3. Open Windows Explorer, go to your \Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox directory and delete it and all of its contents if it still exists.

4. To make sure all existing Firefox profile data is removed, delete the following directories if they still exist:

In Windows XP:

\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla

\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

In Windows Vista/7/8:

\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Mozilla

\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

This will ensure that all remaining custom data relating to your profile, any cached files, any files relating to installed add-ons for Firefox, will all be removed from your system.

5. Find and remove all of the major Firefox/Mozilla-related entries in the Windows Registry.
Backup your Registry to be Safe!
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Using the Windows Registry Editor (Start>Run>Regedit), delete any of the following keys if they exist. That is, right click on their name in the left pane of Registry Editor and select Delete:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MozillaPlugins]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\mozilla.org]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\FirefoxHTML]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\FirefoxURL]

Note: For Steps 4 and 5 above, if you also have any other Mozilla products installed, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, then make sure to only delete entries/folders which specifically relate directly to Firefox by name.

The steps above will remove all the major Firefox-related settings and traces on your system. In the majority of cases you should only have to undertake Steps 1 - 2 of the above list. However, if you are updating to the latest version of Firefox from a relatively old version, or are having strange problems with Firefox and nothing works to resolve it, or if you simply want to remove all traces of Firefox from your system, then follow all of the steps above. Of course you do not need to follow any of the steps above if you are simply updating for incremental versions of Firefox which don't contain major changes; just use the built-in updater to install the latest version over your existing one.

Hi there

Does it support SILVERLIGHT -- otherwise SKY GO / NETFLIX / BT SPORT for me is no go. These are absolutely MUST HAVE applications for me --if you are ever stuck in a foreign hotel where the bar is closed and it's a public holiday outside where most of the local bars are shut and the only TV is showing some stupid show in a totally un-understandable language with even more un-understandable subtitles then you'll appreciate these service on your PC..

IE11 does it for me currently - I've had bad experiences with FF in the past -- especially with the literally zillions of addons / bloat etc etc.

So is it worth giving it another try -- baring in mind my must have apps.

Cheers

Yes FF does support Silverlight you have to install it as a Plug-in though, it does not come "out of the box". I'm using it for some IPTV applications (they made me do it). Download from MS or somewhere else and install.

Disable Mouse Hover 'Tooltips'

Do Mouse Hover 'Tooltips', as shown below, drive you nuts?
I find them to be especially annoying in IE, (shown below), depending on your native 'MouseHoverDelay' settings!

1.png

Well, in Firefox 31.0 and up, they can be easily disabled.
Simply type 'about:config' (without the quotes) into Firefox's address bar and press Enter, click on the "I'll be careful, I promise" dialog,
then navigate to 'browser.chrome.toolbar_tips' and toggle its value to False.

Correction:
I had forgotten that 'MouseHoverTime' in HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse also governs IE.
You can adjust 'MouseHoverTime' in the same manner but it will apply throughout Windows Explorer.

To those with RAM Issues: We haven't fixed the RAM Leakage problem yet. On the support website there are fixes, But this is most likely due to add ons and other apps/software/windows open and running.

'Piggyback' Tabs

Mount and open working tabs inside of 'Home' tabs in Firefox:

Simply open a new tab and type chrome://browser/content and press Enter

Use your Bookmarks in any of the 'Home' or expanded tabs
Bookmark the page - the bookmark title will be 'null'.
(Kind of a simple version of 'Tab Groups')

Firefox 31 Review & Rating | PCMag.com

With this redesign, Firefox becomes the best-looking browser around: It's clean, functional, and more customizable than the rest. Mozilla's browser also offers the best combination of performance and support for new Web standards, with excellent graphics hardware acceleration, low memory use, privacy, and support for a ton of emerging Web technologies. All of this makes Firefox worthy of reclaiming the PCMag.com Editors' Choice for Windows Web browsers it enjoyed for several years before Chrome's recent reign.

Well, memory is supposed to be used, not to stay empty, tabs loaded in memory is good part, alternatives are either reload the page every time you switch tabs or to be written to disk, guess which one is fastest ? Amount of memory used for each tab depends on it's content not on browser used.
Opening a new site (I guess your "hesitation ") is largely dependent of few factors. Internet speed and ping, size of downloaded page, amount of filters like some add-ons, security software like AV and security built in the browser. If you feel it's too slow with your system you should look into some of your add-ons, Bitdefender or ping.
