Hi!

I installed Windows 8 on my LG R590 notebook.

Everything OK, sound, networking, wireless, video, OSD ... everything working 100%.

The only small problem I honestly do not understand:

When Windows 8 started it goes first to new start screen, right? I had already installed Windows 8 on my desktop and this new start screen meant nothing to me at all, I just hit the ESC key or Windows Key and then this new start screen is closed and traditional desktop is on.

But strangely, in my notebook it just does not work. Both keys (the ESC key and windows key) do not work in the new start screen. When clicked, nothing happens. The only way to get the traditional desktop screen is to click in tile "desktop". After returning to conventional desktop, if I hit the Windows key I back to new start screen normally. So, the problem with the ESC key/Windows key only occurs on first time I turn on/reboot the system.

This is not exactly a problem, but it annoying. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

This workround worked perfectly. Thank you very much, Brink.

Just out of curiosity: is this a known problem? Unlike my laptop, on my desktop the keys ESC/Windows close the new start screen with no problem.

You're most welcome.

That's normal if you booted straight to the Start screen and haven't opened anything yet.

The Windows key toggles between the Start screen and the last opened Metro app (if it's still open/running). Think of the Desktop as being one of those apps (which to Windows 8, that's kind of the way it behaves). If you haven't gone to the Desktop yet or opened any other apps, the Windows key won't do anything. If you use a program like Start8 or Classic Shell, etc, that goes directly to desktop, then these utilities will have started the Desktop already and the Windows key will take you to the Start screen from the desktop
