Ok so I am trying to install Win 8 (x64) which I downloaded from TechNet as an upgrade on my Win 7 (64) laptop with 8GB of memory.

I have run the burned ISO from within Win 7, but it then gives me this error code:
You need to install at least 2GB of RAM before you can install and run Windows 8. Contact the PC manufacturer to see if you can install more RAM.

The problem is I have 8GB of RAM installed (see image below). Any ideas? Any work arounds?

Thanks!

Hi,

The hardware may not be correctly recognizing the CPU speed since it has been overclocked. You may want to try returning the CPU to its original configuration and then try installing Windows 8 RTM again to see if the installation can then complete.

Hope this helps :)

I have the same problem... I have 4GB RAM installed, but Windows 8 keeps telling me I don't even have 2... I installed the preview with some kind of setup extractor that circumvented this messed up requirement check... but cannot remember right now, how...
Though after the install it just froze after 10seconds, maybe related to the ram issue, maybe not... still, I would be very interesented in a fix though...

Hi there
Windows 8 Enterprise from technet works just fine on 2 different laptops -- ACER and Sony both fitted with 8GB RAM.

If you are using a TechNet / MSDN build why not go for Enterprise instead of Pro.

Cheers

I use the Windows 8 from Dreamspark, I don't think there is an enterprise edition.
Just installed Windows 8 using GImagex and will reboot now to try it out...

Well.... Windows 8 still freezes, just like the Consumer Preview... pretty disappointing, since my specs should definitely be able to handle it... Is this due to the ram is not being detected as it should be?

Just installed win 8 pro over consumer preview and had a same message when trying to run it from windows.
rebooted. From optical drive, and went smooth.
hope this helps all those frustrated people speed dialing Microsoft and Amazon
