Solved Eclipse portable no longer works in Win8?

Hopachio - I got a Dot Net error when installing the Java EE version. But it still ran.

Never encountered that before since there was nothing to install. java -jre is zipped and eclipse package (even the EE one) is zipped as well: extract and run. So it depends what package do you have after all. If you have something more there with an all-in-one installer then the error justifies. Something might use .net but that shouldn't be eclipse nor java.

What bogged me was that it only gave m,e the error during it's unpacking.

Ok, so he figured out what was happening, it was a carry over from another program. Maya you say? I had the whole Autodesk 3DSMAX/SoftImage package installed on my computer, would that have accounted for my unpacking error? But the Programs still ran on the drives I extracted them to.

I spent a bit confirming this, 100% certain the newest Nvidia Geforce driver, 320.18 ****s up the registry real well.
Just google "320.18 litehtml"
It somehow alters the system's recognition/path to litehtml.dll along with some other dll's, so far, specific to Autodesk Programs for me.
(side note: System Restore works SO much better in Win8)
Going to test the 320 beta drivers later today as they don't include the "Geforce Experience" or whatever.

Geforce Experience: You do have a choice to disable that when installing.
There can be a custom install choice.

What I see in 320.18 is that they force the update utility to people because there is no check button in the installer for this.
However I never needed the update utility because installing the driver when I need is more convenient.

The update creates one or two startup services and a user (folder) called updatususer.

Installing the drivers though Device Manager means a full install: Experience + Fresh Settings + Update Service

I know, I'm not saying that's causing the issue, merely a possibility.

And it seems to be specific to Win8, as I've that very driver installed on my hdd and Maya and everything runs just fine.

DO NOT install the 3.20 nVidia Beta! There already have been several people in here that have had serious problems with it. There is no reason to instal it, the latest confirmed driver works well enough.

My system's finally stable. Think you could help out with 2 small personalization things?

-Change metro background. In win7, it was a registry tweak to change your startup screen's background. I'd like to do the same on win8 here, the default ones are just too wonky.

-Get rid of that drag zone in desktop view on the top of the screen. As I will never use that craptastic metro split.

Ah, Sorry there is no way to choose any background that is not listed. You would have to locate where the backgrounds are stashed and move your customized images there.

I don't know about the second thing, because I don't use it, I just avoid the area with my mouse. I don't think it can be disabled, maybe there is a way to do it using Start8. No, there isn't - You can disable the hot corners, but not the drag zone.

Yes you can use that Skip M Suite to remove the drag zone.

I see you mentioned Decor8, it does the trick so it seems.
