Drive Imaging--What do you use?

Frank1: Yes, that is about all there is to it. And when you run the job, it will prompt to save it so you can just right click on it in the future and run it again. Or schedule it to happen regularly.

For curiosity I just downloaded Macrium since most everyone likes it. I didn't use it yet but I opened it and it looked almost too easy to use. If I understand it correctly, after you open it, you select the disk or files you want to image and then select where you want to put it. You then click, Next. Is that all there s to it?

So easy, a caveman can do it!

The next time I opened it it asked me if I wanted to make rescue disk. Would that be something like what Windows calls a Repair Disk? With the Repair disk (which is bootable) you use it when you want to restore the image that you made. You put it in the CD drive and then shut down. Then when you start with the Repair Disk in the drive it gives you a couple of options one of which is to restore an image that you made previously.

Yes, it's the disk you boot from in the event that you turn on your computer and it just won't start. Or your hard drive has died and you have purchased a new drive and need to put your OS onto the new drive.

I'm happy with it that comes with windows. Why install another one that does the same function.

Because for serious imaging, the Windows facilities are a pain in the neck and do not work half of the time. I use free Macrium - but I run Win8 an Virtual Box.

I've heard others say that they, also, do not like the one built in in Windows 7. I'm sure that everyone has their reasons but I have had not one problem with it. Maybe I've been lucky. I may try just another just to see how I like it.

I also have zero problems with the Windows 7 file recovery as well.

Secondary hard drive with two partitions, one set up for an original image with all programs installed then weekly back ups are made to the other partition. It's all I need and always seems to work for me.

I've used the one in Windows 7 several times and have had no problem what-so-ever. I suppose the one in 8 will be the same way.

It is, and it does.

it's my backup solution of choice.

Why pay for something, if something else does it just as well, for free?
