Hi, I'm new here , not much of a techie type of guy, but it seems I made a mistake when I ordered Windows 8 last Friday. Download went perfect , I made a bootable disk after the download and have Windows 8 up and running on my system.
However , I just noticed the other day that the upgrade was only a 32 bit software. So I called the Windows store several times , explained the situation " that I wanted a 64 bit version" , they told me no problem each time, you can get a refund ,they then sent me an email that stated

" We've started processing your return. Before the cost of Windows 8 can be refunded, you must sign an electronic Letter of Destruction (eLoD) certifying you will not use Windows 8 Pro any longer. Upon accepting the eLoD online, a credit will be processed and the new product key you purchased won't work anymore. To avoid the automatic cancellation of your return request, you must accept the eLoD within 14 days. You can view and accept the eLoD online . "

Fine and dandy , not a problem , you fill out a form , then send it off , and all you get is " The window order summary page is not currently available ....try again. You do this several times , then it's " I'm sorry , your account is suspended."

Back to the store , get a new person on the phone for another 20 min , same thing over and over, they tell you what you want to here , then send you back to the same site.

Is there another option here , besides calling this windows store ? I tried reinstalling the software , still get a 32 bit operating system. Seems to be no customizing with this software.

So, am I the only one having this difficultly ?

To get the 64-bit Win 8 upgrade you need to download (with the upgrade assistant) from a PC running a 64-bit compatible OS.

Thanks for the reply, but that's not the answer I was looking for. For now, I would just like to get a refund , because like lots of other XP or vista users , we were led to believe this was a 64 bit system. Certainly , the beta version I download was just that. Anyway, that's just my rant. May try to load the beta system tomorrow using my new product key and see if that works.

It IS a 64-bit system, and it also comes in 32-bit. ?

Just got off the phone with Microsoft and they have finally solved the problem with my refund after three days. I am now going to order the DVD version of windows 8 which I believe has two versions , a 32 bit and a 64 bit. Thanks IVY 8 for the replies. Super to have a forum like this to discuss your problems.
