Did MS trade beauty for speed?

Anyone here can probably see that Windows 7 is a lot better looking than Windows 8/8.1, at least when it comes to the desktop.

That's your opinion. Windows 8 desktop is not just a better and faster OS, it's also more pleasing to my eyes.

Like someone said here before, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Except for the way you get to things in windows 8.1 and the tiled screen windows 7 and windows 8 are pretty similer looking to each other.
