Desktop flashing after updating to Windows 8.1

Hi,

I recently updated to 8.1 from 8. Now when I start my laptop, it boots up normally and loads my desktop screen, but the screen flashes every 10 seconds or so, sometimes more.
In addition to this, all my desktop and taskbar icons are gone/not showing, and when I put my mouse over the taskbar it displays the loading symbol and I can't click on anything. Task manager shows a certain process is using 100% of the diskspace. Should I just kill the process?
Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks.

Yes, kill all those Seagate Dashboard tasks. Then disable/uninstall it and see if things are better. May need to reboot also.

EDIT: Also, Indexing Service may cause high usage for awhile after a major update/upgrade.

Yup, I stopped it running and disable it from running on startup and restarted my computer. However now just the "System" process is using 100% instead. I've restarted a few times and sometimes it's this program, sometimes it's another
