Creating a clean setup DVD from installed Windows 8?

Hey guys,

I want to know if it's possible to create a clean install DVD.

• with pre-installed Windows 8
• without product key (when I buyed the notebook Win8 was already installed - the personal product key is "inside" the notebook).

By the way, can I include the Windows Updates in the install DVD somehow - (and programs which should be pre-installed)?

I think I know what you mean. You want a full fledged DVD of the version of Windows 8 that came installed on your computer just like the DVD you would get if you purchased it separately. Back in the "olden" days, this disk would come with every system, now only a few include it for whatever reason. I am pretty sure it cannot be done using the already installed files on your hard drive, and I do not think it can be done using the recovery partition. I am also looking into this for one of my laptops. There is one way I can think of doing this, but it involves downloading an OEM version of the same version on Win 8 you have, and just getting the serial number of your systems installed Windows. There is a utility I was reading about last evening that supposingly can tell you what that is, but I have not had time to fully look into it. I also kind of question the legality of my idea, even though I would be using my licensed serial to install Windows! ;p).

HP Recovery Manager is a software program that offers a way to create recovery media after you
successfully set up the computer. HP Recovery media can be used to perform system recovery if the
hard drive becomes corrupted. System recovery reinstalls the original operating system and the
software programs installed at the factory, and then configures the settings for the programs. HP
Recovery media can also be used to customize the system or aid in the replacement of a hard drive.

Using System Diagnostics

System Diagnostics allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine if the computer hardware is
functioning properly.
To start System Diagnostics:
1. Turn on or restart the computer, quickly press esc, and then press f2.
2. Click the diagnostic test you want to run, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Try press F11 for Recovery Option.

You can initiate this option by using the f11 key or from the Start screen.
To use the f11 key:
1. Press f11 while the computer boots.

Press and hold f11 as you press the power button.

Using HP Recovery media to recover

I appreciate the response, but I have read all of that and that is not what I am looking for. That is for creating a Windows 8 repair disk and offering alternate ways to use the restore disks that you create. I am talking about getting a copy of Windows 8 Home Premium itself that can be installed using the serial number that is built into the laptop. It would be an OEM version just like what still comes with a few PC's.

Afaik, you can use any win 8 install media. It should pick up the oem key.

Not that hard to find.

If you want to install in the regular way using windows setup, you might need one of those keys that is just for installing, not activating.

As far as I know you can't build a regular (what you would by at a retailer) install DVD from the recovery media. The best you could likely do is retrieve the OEM branding and add it to an official Windows 8 ISO image and then burn that. As SIW2 said the product code is detected automatically during the install. If the PC comes with Windows 8 pre installed the product code is embedded in the BIOS of the PC by manufacturer.
