Been there done that. I try not to post until I've had at least one cup of coffee. Actually I don't think it would damage anything but better safe than sorry.
G'day. We have a Coaster bus we have made into a motor home, we have a 12 volt sat vast box and dish, we have no room for a tv but have a place to put the laptop to use as a tv.The OP hasn't said what they actually intend to do yet? Do they want to watch TV on the laptop or get internet though the satellite box?

Is it a rf output that would normally go straight into a television? Are there different types of outputs?
Edit: If just a normal sat receiver box you are going to need something similar to this: RF Coax Video to HDMI VGA Converter Switch
Actually, forget that also as the HDMI and VGA connections on the laptop are output only. I had a brain fart. The only thing I possibly see working is some kind of wireless converter that would allow you to pick up the signal over wireless on your laptop. I'm not sure if SiliconDust boxes are satellite compatible, they may be.
Will see about the Silicon Dust boxG'day. If the sat box has an HDMI output a computer monitor with an HDMI in and built in speakers will work. Just match the monitor size to the space you have available. As a plus you should also be able to use the monitor as a second screen, or even main screen on the laptop. If the monitor has the VESA mounting holes you can screw it to a wall just like you would a flat screen TV. I'd get one that was 1080P.
