Clean install

Because it just seems to work in desktop mode

Looks like you will be doing a re-installation or oem recovery...

You can force recovery by powering in the pc and when the windows logo appears pull the power plug on the PC

3 failed attempts to boot windows will trigger windows recovery

Forgive my ignorance. What exactly is windows recovery. Tried google search but did not see anything for windows recovery. What exactly does that do? Also, once started, is there anything I need to do, or does it complete by itself?

Sorry to keep dragging this out. I think most of my problem understanding is terminology.

Ok, lets see if I understand. When I do this, Windows Recovery will launch. Here is where I will choose to refresh or reset?

yes, if it has an ON-Disk recovery factory Image it will reset to factory out of the box settings..

If I look in disk management I should see a partition labeled recovery partition. Is this the "ON-Disk recovery factory Image"?

When I do this recovery to factory, do I select reset over refresh?

There are actually two recovery partitions..

partition 1 is the recovery tools - WinRE

And the last partition is the recovery image partition - 10-20 GB partition

Refresh will keep the present user accounts, so reset will really be your only option..

Thank you. I feel better about my understanding now. I will be picking up the PC later this afternoon and bringing it to the house. I'm less nervous doing it here than there.

Worst case scenario, I can fall back to a clean install, but I will give the recovery a try. Good hands on learning.

Got to get it done this weekend. Start classes next week. Hope you are around this evening and weekend.
