Solved Clean install question

Ok here goes. I had win7 64 and upgraded to win8, my wife got on it a couple of days ago. Yesterday I noticed a couple of my short cuts missing from my desk top so I went into event viewer. Under system I found where she had run system restore 5 or 6 times, a recovery option thats in win 8 and under applications she deleted all the logs from the time of the last restore she did. Also she deleted all but the last system restore that she did. I found a couple of files now on my C drive that I can't get into telling me that I don't have permission and the owner is unknown. So I'm afraid that at this point my only option is to do a clean install and lock her out of my computer period. I'm not sure how I need to go about this seeing how I was on win 7 and upgraded to win 8. Thanks for any and all help with this.

You will need to reset your file/folder permissions. A clean install may not cure the issue. I encountered this in my computer that was a clean install from Win XP. The other partitions were not touched during installation and so some of my files became locked so I could not delete/rename/etc them. I found the link below that should help you fix the issue. I suppose if you still wanted her to be able to use your PC and not have her get mad you, you could have her use only a standard user account that would only be able to affect her account.

You may be able to just take ownership (Option Three) of and set permissions to "Allow" your account "Full Control" of these files to have access to them.

If needed, you certainly could do a clean install with your Windows 8 upgrade without having to install Windows 7 first.

As others have said, use Clean Install - Windows 8. In this regard, you will be doing a clean reinstall of Win8. In such a case, you are likely to have to use the refresh procedure described here to activate: Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade. Lock her out? Well, require a strong password (unknown to her) to logon--whether using an administrator account, a standard user account, an MS account, a local account, or whatever. If very serious about wanting to keep her out, but want to allow her some use, then use a guest account.

Thanks all of you for your help. She can get mad all she wants, she's not getting back on it. This isn't the first time something like this has "just happend", had to replace my hard drive the last time. I do believe I'm going with the clean install then to make sure there is nothing sneaky or still hidden. Thanks again for all ya'lls input and advise.
