Can't use OneDrive and local account!?

Hello!
I'm sick of Microsoft forcing me to try and use my ms account on windows, which I do not want at all. Now apparently I can't get access to my OneDrive on my pc because I have to sign in with my MS account which will replace my local account all over! I'm incredibly pissed at MS for this, any way to circumvent it?
Also, whenever I try and install the OD client for my pc, it just says I have a newer version installed which I have to uninstall, but it's nowhere to be found on the program list.

One Drive is cloud storage that is tied to your online live ID account. You can't have one without the other. If you don't have a Live ID account you do not have One Drive storage to use. How would you access the online data from a Local account? There is no way around it.

You can access OneDrive through the web interface if you want and upload and download files from there (https://onedrive.live.com). You will still need a live ID as alphanumeric says otherwise you'll simply not have any OneDrive space at all.

If you don't use a microsoft to log in then you'll not automatically sync. As OneDrive is part of the OS you can't uninstall it - you can just not use it or use the web interface if you use a local account. There is no obligation to sign on with MS account - lots of people don't. There are of course other cloud sync solutions if you want to use them instead.

Other apps (mail, skype) work fine from a local account using your live ID (if you have one) or using alternative credentials.

There are ways to access OneDrive without converting to a MS Account for login. One that I use is called syncDriver for OneDrive.

Works great in W10 too.

I think you guys misunderstood, I have & want an MS account, I just don't want to use it with my OS. And I also like(d) having the onedrive app on the pc, but now it logs in everywhere if I log in with OneDrive. I miss the W7 app where it was standalone, not this global sync bullshit.

You can turn the sync off in the One Drive settings. You can turn it all off or just certain things. Charms Bar > Settings > Change PC Settings > One drive > Sync Settings.

I'm a relatively recent Win8 user, but I agree with r2detard. On my office Win7 machine, I can login to my OneDrive account and access/sync my files without an issue. Now on my personal Win8 machine, I must sign in with my MS-Live account TO THE PC in order to have the same access. When I get my new office PC in a few days, it will have Win8.1 but I CANNOT use my MS-Live account to log into that machine at which point my only option is to MANUALLY SYNC files through the web interface. What a huge step backward. Also like r2detard, I use multiple computers (PC at work, Mac and PC at home, shared PC at my volunteer gig). I typically will work on a file (say a presentation or spreadsheet) at the office, continue at home (usually on the Mac), and then continue on one of the shared PCs. With this set up, the only 'seamless' integration is with the Mac (along with my iPhone and iPad). Maybe I'll just stick with DropBox which works just fine in Win8.1 (and is seamless after set up).

Yet again, MS trying to dictate the user experience. I guess all the folks in Renton sign onto their MS-Live accounts or aren't allowed to use OneDrive at work.

You could buy a Storagemadeeasy account which lets you synch your OneDrive storage using the software they provide or you can access your cloud files through webdav. I do it like this because also have got Linux on my pc and with Linux Storagemadeeasy is the most convenient way to access OneDrive. In Windows 8.1 I have completely disable OneDrive vià group policies.

I saw that and will probably use something like that. I'm fortunate that I can install 3rd party software, not everyone can. Maybe those companies wouldn't allow the Win7 OneDrive client either and would frown on people using OneDrive web access.

It just bugs me that MS would come out with such a great business tool as OneDrive and then neuter it in the business world. They could have easily integrated the client into Win8.1 and make you connect your MS-Live account to it through the control panel.
